Scientific Abstracts information

Overview
You are invited to submit an abstract for poster presentations at the Welsh Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting on 6th October 2023. If you have worked on a research/ quality improvement / audit project or have an interesting clinical case related to pain management, submit an abstract for a chance to showcase a poster of your work to a multidisciplinary audience. 

Selected abstracts may be published in the British Journal of Pain (as WPS-ASM proceedings).

 

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to all healthcare professionals. 

 

Prize

  • 1st prize: £100

  • 2nd prize: £50 

  • 3rd prize: £25

 

How to enter 

  • Authors will be notified by 30th September if selected for poster presentation.

  • Presenting author will need to book a place on the event in order to display their poster. 

  • All abstracts submitted must follow these guidelines. 

 

Abstract format: (see example abstracts): Submit as

  • single A4 sheet 

  • plain text, rich text or Microsoft Word 

  • 12 point Times New Roman font 

  • 2.5 cm margins 

  • single line spacing 

  • a blank line separating paragraphs 

  • No figures or excel tables

 

Abstracts must include: 

  • abstract title 

  • all authors’ initials, last names and place where work was carried out 

  • the text of the abstract should contain headings: background, methods, results and conclusion 

  • a maximum of 5 References; listed and cited as specified by the British Journal of Pain 

  • acknowledgement of sources of funding 

  • Has the abstract been presented in a national meeting previously (those which have been presented/ published previously will not be eligible for publication in BJP)

  • Submit the declaration form along with your abstract 

  • Selected abstracts will be published in the BJP

 

Poster Preparation Guidelines 

Authors selected to display a poster at the event must present their research in greater detail than in the abstract and should not simply reproduce the text contained in the abstract. There is no limit on figures/pictures/tables in the poster. 

 

Poster format: 

  • A0 or A1 size 

  • portrait (vertical) orientation 

  • posters should contain no more than 750 words, including title, authors and references 

  • professionally printed onto a single sheet. 

 

 Other information: 

  • authors will need to bring the poster with them on the day of the event 

  • at the end of the event, authors must collect their poster from the display board. 

  • the presenting author will receive a certificate of presentation for producing and presenting a poster.
